  • A logo is one aspect of any blog or a company’s commercial brand which is used to identify different sites or blogs or a particular brand. Its shapes, colors, fonts, and images usually are different from others in a similar market. In this competitive world, it is sensible to use an ideogram as a logo, even with the name, if people will not duly identify it.

Logo design is an important area of graphic design, and one of the most difficult to perfect. The logo (ideogram), is the image embodying an organization. Because logos are meant to represent companies’ brands or corporate identities and foster their immediate customer recognition, it is counterproductive to frequently redesign logos.

One of our reader named Gene from Shaboopie.com offered 83 Professional PSD logos (fully customizable) to be featured on our site. The logos are designed 100% by Shaboopie team. They are free, however see (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/us/). Hope these come in handy for your next design work or redesigning of your current logo.

I would agree with all of the people here that say logos should never be built in Photoshop. Also, I would like to hear the logo designer's thoughts on these. I seriously would not call the professional logos. Why is he releasing these for free? And who really would want to use a free logo for their professional business? There is clearly an assembly line strategy to most of these. If you look at them, there is a small icon on the left followed by a line of text on the right, usually two words in different colors. Clearly, there is no thought being put into what the actual company does or customizing the logo to a specific industry. I guess that might be why he's releasing them for free. This kind of thing reminds me of an even cr@ppier version of LogoWorks, though. Any "designer" should be ashamed of himself for releasing anything like this.

Another great resource I've found for creating customized, affordable logos is

With FreeLogoServices, you can preview your customized logo for free, and if you are interested, the original artwork files can be purchased for only $39.95. These are Adobe Illustrator files, which are higher quality than the raster vectors produced in Photoshop formats as nicolecreates pointed out. I think they also deliver them in .eps with embedded fonts.
    • I agree - FreeLogoServices - offers high quality logos that you can make for free. If you wish to purchase them, they are only $39.95. Try getting the same quality elsewhere. You can't do it for under ~$350.

    • Thanks for the appreciation but ps vs illustrator thing is also right. I won;t argue in that, its just ,many out there still prefer doing things with ps. Also please respect others thought, that's why I have edited your reply.

The major problem with creating a logo in Photoshop is that inevitably, someone is going to want to use it in print applications (as opposed to on the web, where raster is fine) and the quality is going to suffer.

So you can prefer to use Photoshop all you like, however, when a company wants to create a sign out of their logo (just one example), they are going to have problems.
    • Very nice collection indeed, I don't know much of PS and Illustrator, still learning and these will surely serve as a reference for my learning. Thanks for sharing
    • wow thats a lot of logos . Awesome
    • logo's designed in photoshop are an obvious fail. You should never design a logo as a bitmap graphic.
    • fully agree

I have a problem with this article. Mostly because you've used "free" and "professional" together, and then "professional logo" and "psd files." Sadly, these are all incompatible thoughts. If logo design is as important as you claim it is in the introduction (and yes, it is), then a company should consider that maybe a free logo, one that other companies will have access to use as well, could be problematic for many reasons. Copyright is an issue as is establishing brand identity (imagine what happens when two companies choose the same free logo). Lastly, Photoshop is never an acceptable program to create logos in. Ask any graphic design professional and they will tell you that vector formats should always be used, not raster (Illustrator is vector, Photoshop is raster).
    • You getting it wrong buddy, by professional we were stressing on the quality and look of the logos and not that they cost money to be made thus contradicting the fact that they are free. Hope this clears our point.

Still not vector. Still not something that any company can trademark (vital for a logo). Still not unique.

If you're going to reply to criticism, at least address the root of the criticism. Why should anyone use these for their company if they can't trademark it and ensure that it is only theirs, and they can't use it in print or resize it freely.
